Weekender Bags

In our community, many children face food insecurity when daily school meals aren’t available. That’s why we created our Weekender Bag program, providing students with consistent, shelf-stable staples like oatmeal, soup, tuna, peanut butter, mac & cheese, and fruit to take home every weekend. Through generous donations we’re helping ease hunger and ensuring our students don’t have any doubts about their weekend meals.

The program began in 2022 after a school social worker shared heartbreaking stories of students going hungry on weekends when the free breakfast and lunch they received at school weren’t available. What started as 120 bags of food per month quickly grew to meet rising demand, at one point reaching 800 bags, a testament to both the profound need and our community’s unwavering compassion.

While partnerships with schools and specialized meal providers have since helped stabilize resources, adjusting our output to about 340 bags monthly, our commitment has never wavered. Every bag represents a child who won’t face a hungry weekend, a family that knows they’re not alone, and a community that stands together against hunger.

The need persists, but so does our resolve.
With the support of our village, we’ll keep adapting, expanding, and ensuring no child in our city has to endure weekend hunger.
