Volunteer Opportunities

Jericho Partnership is a volunteer-powered organization.

You see, Jericho doesn’t mentor and tutor students. Volunteers do.

Jericho doesn’t lead life-skills workshops, or pack boxes of food for neighbors in need, or translate medical questions for non-English-speaking parents at our pediatric clinic. Volunteers do those things.

Without YOU, there would be no US. And we have a host of opportunities you can do - with students or behind the scenes - to make an impact. No contribution is too small.

Study Buddy - Visit an Danbury public elementary school classroom on a regular basis (i.e., every Tuesday or twice a month) for an hour to work with students.

  • Hours available vary; you can select a day/time you’d like to serve.

  • Exact assignments will be determined by classroom teachers, but often include reading a lesson with students and leading small group discussions that follow.

  • In most cases Study Buddies will work with higher-achieving students to free up a teacher to provide extra help to students in need.

Pantry/Food Services Helper - Help unload, sort and distribute food to our neighbors in need and pick up food as needed for students, etc., 22 Maple Ave.

  • Fridays, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (two-hour shift appreciated, but can be more!) 10:00 to 1:00 is unloading delivery truck and set-up (heavy lifting involved); 1:00 to 3:00 is serving guests (lifting involved); 2:30 to 4:00 is vital role of clean-up and reset. We need about 10 volunteers every Friday.

  • Wednesdays and Thursdays, general pantry upkeep as needed and pick-up/delivery of food from suppliers for pantry or after-school Academic Tutoring Program. Our Food Services Coordinator will work directly with volunteers on these needs.

Food Pick-up / Delivery - With your own vehicle, pick up and deliver either cases of food for our pantry OR prepared meals for our after-school Academic Tutoring Program.

  • Food pantry pick-ups are typically on Wednesday mornings, at a location within Danbury and take place twice a month (sometimes more often). Our Food Services Coordinator will work out a schedule with you.

  • Prepared meal pick-ups are on an as-needed basis, but would happen between approximately 1:30 and 2:00 p.m. (If you sign up for this opportunity, you’ll be called when there’s a need.)

Translator - Assist individuals who speak Spanish or Portuguese and help them navigate through their time with Jericho

  • Assist families who visit Samaritan Health Center (mostly Portuguese-speaking)

Classroom Monitors/Tutors - Work with K-12 students in our after-school Academic Tutoring Program. This program provides homework, test, and project support for our students, helping them attain or maintain grade-level skills and reach their academic potential

  • Classroom monitors/tutors will supervise students in their classrooms, check their Google Classroom/Powerschool to ensure they’ve completed assignments, and help with homework

  • Volunteers in the lower level program will also supervise recreation and snack time

  • Kindergarten through 5th grade: 3:30 to 5:00 pm, at 44 Spring St.

  • 6th through 12th grade: 2:30 to 5:00 pm, at 13 Rose St. (will include supervising a light meal)

Mentor for Boy or Girl - Come alongside a boy or girl, or a small group of students, in a long-term Christ-centered mentoring relationship

  • Commitment is approximately 3-4 meetings/relationship-building outings every month throughout your mentee's middle and/or high school career (min 2-yr commitment)

  • Small group mentoring is also an option

  • Training is provided… come only with an open heart and a desire to form a great relationship with a youth who needs guidance, compassion and love!

One-day Group Service Projects - Join us on periodically scheduled days to engage in property clean-up, indoors projects, or ministry special events, as needed.

  • If you choose this option on our volunteer application, we’ll contact you when service days are scheduled.

NOTE: For the safety of those we serve, all Jericho volunteers must authorize us to conduct, through a secure third party, a standard criminal background check (no credit check). Those working around students must also take a short online Child Safety Training. Finally, all volunteers must be amenable to appearing in Jericho’s communications and marketing materials, which convey our core messaging. Providing the information asked in our volunteer application is your approval for all of the above.
