Chief Patrick Ridenhour Biography
Patrick Ridenhour, born and raised in Waterbury, CT by a police detective/investigator father and a school teacher mother (now retired from Waterbury district), has been the highest ranking officer in the Danbury Police Department since July 2016. The hallmarks of his tenure thus far have been to improve police-community relations, develop personnel, and bring new strategies for crime prevention to the department.
Chief Ridenhour began his law enforcement career in 1988 with the Waterbury Police Department, starting as a Patrol Officer, and rose up the ranks to Assistant Deputy Chief in 2005. In his off-time he volunteered for many community initiatives, served as a youth mentor, and coached girls softball, basketball, and soccer for the Waterbury Police Activities League (PAL). He retired from the Waterbury Police Department in 2008 and worked in the Waterbury Public Schools system for the 2008-2009 school year.
In 2009 Mr. Ridenhour was hired to be the Deputy Chief of the Stratford, CT Police Department where he oversaw the daily operations of the department’s Patrol, Investigative, Professional Standards, and Administrative divisions. In April 2011 he took over as the Interim Chief before being officially promoted to the position in March 2012. He also served as a mentor in Stratford’s School Based Mentoring Program and was an active member of the town’s Citizens Addressing Racial Equity (C.A.R.E). During his tenure the town’s overall crime rate dropped by more than 35%.
Chief Ridenhour holds a Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia, a Bachelor’s Degree from Charter Oak State College, and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management and Leadership from Springfield College. He is also a graduate of both the FBI National Academy and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar in Quantico, VA. He currently serves as a Vice-President of the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association and on the Executive Board of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). He is also a Board Member of the Danbury Police Activities League (PAL) and recently became a member of the Danbury Lions Club. He has received numerous awards throughout his life and career for both his community service and his professional accomplishments.
Chief Ridenhour was baptized at the age of five at Grace Baptist Church in Waterbury, where his late grandfather served as the Head Deacon. For the past two years he has regularly attended New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury.
