A New Objective: Community Reconciliation

Every ministry can point to milestone markers – a time when God has moved in a significant way, prompting its leaders into new areas of ministry.

Jericho has just experienced one of those milestone moments.

For all of its 10-plus years of ministry, Jericho has been guided by five objectives, aimed at serving the at-risk youth and adults of our inner-city neighborhoods.

This month, Jericho’s Board embraced a new, sixth objective to carry us into future ministry opportunities:

Reconcile all people of Danbury to God and to each other by living the gospel of Christ, and joining with our church partners to connect with all city residents, to help break down barriers that separate us.

There are seven goals within this objective, patterned after ones set by Dr. John Perkins, founder of the Christian Community Development Association and the keynote speaker at Jericho’s 2015 Gala:

  1. Absorb pain – Bringing suffering to rest
  2. Proclaim hope – Working to change conditions for the poor
  3. Point to God’s Authority – Obeying His just demands
  4. Bring People Together – Reconciling people to each other
  5. Spend Lavishly – Giving generously to those in need
  6. Reflect God’s Character – Offering compassion, grace, love
  7. Protect the Vulnerable – Orphans, widows, poor and aliens

Jericho’s leaders have developed action steps for each of these goals – multi-cultural events on the Danbury Green, Prayer Gatherings, volunteer ministry opportunities and much more –  designed to bring people together with the common goal of serving those in need, because of our love for Jesus and His commands.

You’ll soon be receiving our Partnership newsletter in your mailbox (at your home or office); it will provide greater details about  the year-long action plan designed to launch this new objective, including a ShareFest weekend in spring 2018!
