Jericho’s campuses are crawling with kids, and we love it!

It’s summer at Jericho Partnership and more than 120 students in kindergarten through high school are making their summer matter at either the Spring Street Neighborhood Center Summer Learning Camp or at S.A.Y. Yes! Summer Program.

The 65 students at Spring Street, kindergarteners through 5th graders, are spending their days rotating through groups, where they engage in games, arts & crafts, reading, dance/movement, and bible study. For most of these children, attending summer camp, where they’re working with 27 caring counselors and leaders, means they won’t be home alone or playing out on the streets, while their parents work.

At S.A.Y. Yes!, 60 older kids – plus 22 staff and volunteers - are spending about 70% of their time in study and summer-school style activities, all focused on Jericho’s overarching goal of ensuring that at-risk students succeed academically and graduate from high school.

“Yes, we do these camps so that our students will have a blast this summer, but the bigger goal is always to help them grow – in who they are as God’s children, as learners, and as individuals,” said Carrie L. Amos, Jericho’s President. “There’s no rule that says we can’t provide them with a biblical worldview while they’re on a field day. In fact, that may be the very best place.”

At both camps, Friday is field-trip day and they hit the road to expand their learning. Some destinations this summer for the camps: Maritime Aquarium, the Governor’s mansion and State Capitol, Bethel Cinema, Candlewood Lake, and Lake Compounce. They’ll also have field days locally at Roger’s Park and Meckauer Park in Bethel.
